SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE Over the years, people have debated the issue of whether Church and State should be mixed. The United States is founded on the belief that Church and State should be separate. Church and state should be separate because the church is far too conservative, the Church may become extreme and the Church may attempt to take away civil rights. First, Church and State should be separate because the Church is far too conservative.
The country may become weaker, because the Church could lower military funding, which will cut the Defense budget. The Church would, most likely, cut the budget for NASA. They will also cut the weapons research fund, which will put the country behind in the technology race. They may stop genetic research, because they think it is wrong. Stopping genetic research is bad, because the research may lead to the curing of many genetic illnesses. The Church may also cause problems with foreign relations, because of their conservative nature.
They may not take action to aid other countries, because they are too conservative. Second, Church and State should be separate because the Church may become extreme. They may try to fight with countries of different religions. People of the church may fight with the Middle East, because they are not of the Christian faith.
They may try to take complete control over the country. The Church may do that by making people do whatever they say. The church may stop foreign relations, because of a country s religion. They will do that by stopping foreign aid or foreign trade with that country. They may force people of Jewish, Muslim or any religion other then theirs to convert and go to their church. Third, Church and State should be separate because they may attempt to take away many civil rights.
They may punish people in the United States of different religions. They can do this by boycotting businesses, raising taxes or physical abuse. They may take away all guns, which violates U. S citizen s right to bear arms. They may stop gay rights by jailing gays or heavily fining them. They could censor television and radio by taking anything violent and sexual off the air.
Finally, Church and State should be separate because, keeping the above reasons in mind, having Church and State together would end up violating citizen s rights. Taking away our rights to believe or not believe in whatever people choose would be a violation of citizen s civil rights. People s rights are what this country is based upon.
