In Liddys article Without Emotion, it was scary to think about how that boys life was going to be if he wanted to learn to kill without emotion, my thoughts and feeling changed from one part to another throughout the story. At first I thought he was going to talk about hunting as a sport. Then after the way he talked about killing the squirrel I thought that it was a story about a little boy with no feelings. No living creature should have had to go through the suffering that the squirrel had to. In my mind I felt really bad for the squirrel, it was sickening to think that anyone could sit there and watch. But then after the boys mother yelled at him and he took of crying, I kind of felt bad for him because I think he finally realized that what he did was wrong.
But then again she should have sat down and talked to him then maybe he would understand what he did was wrong. I understand how he wanted to be a soldier but that was defiantly not the way to go about and do it. I feel really bad for him because maybe his mother should have raised him better; it is hard to tell what kind of family he came from. Then when he went from crying to wanting to kill chickens it upset me because I actually thought that his mother made him realize that killing animals was not the answer. Then when he wanted to learn how to kill chickens it just was disgusting to me.
I thought there was a chance for him to chance and maybe play sports or ride bikes with his friends. I guess it just goes to show that war can turn a man into a monster, or should I say killing machine. But Im sure that if he ever makes it to war he will see that it is different to kill chickens then it is to kill a human being. Bibliography: summer 1 intro to college english sucks
